7 Days Kibale Forest | Queen Elizabeth National Park | Gorilla Trekking

Day 1:

Meet and greet and transfer to Fort Portal which nestles in the shadow of the fabled" Mountains of the Moon". Afternoon visit to Bigodi swamp to search for smaller mammals and primates. Highlights are finding the rare red colobus monkey and the sitatunga. Dinner and overnight at Kibale Tented Camp.

Day 2:

Full day search of chimpanzee and 10 other primates including l' hoestes, red colobus, blues, red tailed and gray cheeked mangabey. The guide will provide detailed explanations, not only on primates, but also on all the forest fauna and flora and will ensure that your walk is both informative and enjoyable.

Day 3:

Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Ruwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey. A game drive en route may be rewarded with views of lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, hyena and a variety of antelope species. After lunch, enjoy the unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward.

This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and many animals may be seen drinking at the water's edge. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous with well over 550 resident species. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day 4:

Two game drives today. Queen Elizabeth National Park's diverse Eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Game dr ives in this park, with the massive Rwenzoris as a backdrop provides excellent opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, elephants, defassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, Topi and bushbuck. These two game drives and the boat trip (taken prior) are memorable methods of discovering a vast array of Ugandan wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day 5:

Drive through the "Switzerland of Africa" area known as the Kigezi Highlands with its terraced hillside and winding roads to Kisoro or Bwindi. Dinner/overnight at Volcano Tented Camp.

Day 6:

Early morning entry into Gorilla sanctuary. This rainforest is spectacular. It offers a dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but criss-crossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. Mammals recorded include the endangered mountain gorilla, rare golden monkey, buffalo, elephant, black-fronted duiker, bushbuck, leopard, giant forest log and others. This park is best known for the fascinating gorillas.

The time taken and the terrain varies according to the movements of this marvelous primates. The thrill of spending time and observing the gorillas is a rare, moving, awesome and exciting adventure. The gorilla is a shy and peaceful animal and it is unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact. Dinner and overnight at Volcano Tented Camp.

Day 7:

Leisurely drive back to Kampala with a stopover in Mbarara for Lunch.

3 Days Gorilla Trekking in Bwidi or Mgahinga Sanctuaries

Day 1:

ARRIVAL. Meet and greet in Kampala at 0800hrs. An early morning start takes you southwest and across the Equator. You drive through savannah grasslands seeing banana plantations and herds of Ankole cattle with their incredibly long curving horns. You then ascend into the Kigezi highlands, known as the "Switzerland of Africa", with terraced farming and mountain scenery. Drive through to Kisoro or Bwindi. Overnight at Hotel Virunga or Volcanoes Camp.

Day 2:

After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide, enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular. The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but criss-crossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain varies with the movements of these great primates. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savored. Many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity. Overnight at Hotel Virunga or Volcanoes Camp.

Day 3:

Sadly return to Kampala with great memories of and moments spent with the fascinating Mountain Gorillas. You will have a stopover in Mbarara for lunch. Drop-off at your respective accommodations in Kampala.

Nikokotoni Village Tumbatu

A trip to Nikokotoni village at the north end of the island. This is the ferrying point to Tumbatu island and the Mkokotoni market is the major point where Tumbatuans sell their fish to Ungujans. For the more adventurous, a trip to Tumbatu Island. where you can visit the only ancient mosque built directly at the sea an the East African coast. The mosque's time of construction is a disputed date anywhere from the 11th to the 17th century. Should you be here at the end of July, you should enjoy the once in a lifetime experience of the celebration of Mwaka Kogua. Dress: festive.
